Vella Seedai
This fried sweet snack is made as an offering to God on Krishna Jayanthi
Ingredients
Rice flour 1 cup
Roasted urad dal flour 1 tbsp maybe a little more
Sesame seeds
Jaggery/brown sugar 1 cup
Cardamom powder
Coconut cut into tiny, thin pieces
Dry ginger powder
Oil for frying
Get Cooking!
1. Roast the rice flour until a light aroma comes.
2. Wash and drain the sesame seeds.
3. Dissolve the jaggery in warm water. Let this cool.
4. Mix the roasted rice flour, urad dal flour, sesame seeds, dissolved jaggery, cardamom powder, coconut, dry ginger powder with some water and make the dough.
5. Keep the dough aside for a while.
6. Roll the dough into balls but not into perfect spheres and place them on a piece of cotton cloth
3. Heat the oil for frying in a kadai taking care that it does not become smoky
4. Put in the seedai 5 – 6 at a time
5. Fry until they are crispy and “navva pasha” colour (purplish brown).
6. Remove from oil and place on tissue paper.
Tips
You could add butter to the dough while making it.
